One brilliant rum with notes of dark chocolate, raisins, mocha, molasses, zesty orange peels, ginger, stewed plums, hazlenuts, and cherry cola. Pairs well with Zuma’s Special Chocolate and can match up well with many of the Foursquare Sherry and Madeira Casks I’ve tried.

Wow the two 6 ratings scared me but I’m damn glad I just bought the last bottle. First on nose I almost sneezed from the alcohol scent, first sip is exceptional massive depth dark chocolate rum raisin bread slight banana bread too. No ice required this is a proper neat sipping rum. Also very nice presentation in the beautiful bottle. Lucky me I hope to get more.

Best Brugal ever, twice as good as 1888

From fine sipping rums that I’ve tried this unfortunately is my least favorite. Its not smooth and u get a strong taste almost a burn from this. U can still sip it, I recommend some ice. All in all it’s a strong one. Its ok, but I cant really recommend it with a price of 100€.

i was on the wrong side of town and stopped in at my old total wine. thought i'd buy a bottle or three of denizen for mai tais... saw an interesting bottle of brugal in a box. didn't recognize it so i threw it in the cart. as it turns out, extremely limited production of their new visionaria "enhanced" cask" concept. just happened to go on the shelf after close last night and i happened to wander by 30 minutes after open today. nice!

took a post lunch break because i was too excited to leave it sitting for tonight.

on the shelf its a lovely heavy painted bottle with the brugal netting. hand dipped wax seal. no age statement, no distillation statement.

nose has a lovely round scent, no sharp alcohol scents. i do get chocolate but its more like cocoa butter or cacao beans then chocolately? i do get some nice ashy toasted barrel too.

on the tongue it's smooth, with some very overripe banana and more of that buttery (cocoa butter) sensation. a very roasted flavor. perhaps some burnt orange. just generally a very roasty, maillard type profile. very nice. no one thing stands out. i don't think i detect any added sweetness or flavorants but im not quite a taste savant. if there is added sugars it is surely with a very light hand. zero cloying sweetness here.

finish. it really feels like i had a truly excellent piece of warm banana bread with lots of butter on it. for a 90 proof this has a lovely tingle and sparkle as it lingers.

overall, it is really lovely. i'm very pleased with it and will enjoy sipping it neat. i think a little water from one or two ice cubes chilling it and opening it up might expose more of that barrel stuff they were going for. i'll update if it is eye opening to try it on ice.

ig you like brugal and other dominicans and you can lay your hands on this i think it's very much worth it.

Was a bit worried, since it's not the cheapest bottle and the reviews are a bit mixed. However, I was pleasantly surprised as this rum is one of the best rums I have tried. I am a big fan of 1888 but I can say this one topped it. Definitely worth the price. Hopefully I can score another bottle. The cocoa flavor is not at all overwhelming, there is only hints, which add to its personality. It quite dry and not at all sweet, so don't buy it if you prefer rums on the sweeter side.

Rich notes of dark chocolate, raisins, and molasses. Hints of zesty orange, ginger, and vanilla. Smooth finish with lingering roasted flavors and subtle cocoa butter undertones.

Caramel, chocolate and raisins in aroma; sweet caramel, cocoa and dark chocolate, vanilla in body; no tail.

A master piece in its class an inequitable balance blend. Delightfully taste and one to enjoy among close friends.

I wanted so bad to like this given the whole experimental visionary theme, but to start I’m not a fan of DR rums so add +2 to my rating if you are, on the nose i expected chocolate but just smelled a deeper version of 1888, on taste what might be a hint of chocolate was quickly overpowered by this strong bitter blast (orange peel?) so it’s interrupting itself with harsh citrus before you ever get to enjoy the complexity they tried to inject woth “dark chocolate and toasted nuts and virgen European oak”.
