Trois Rivieres Blanc 50 rum

Trois Rivieres Blanc 50 review posted 1 hour ago by Mujuru 🇺🇸 | 153 ratings

I picked this bottle up at the back end of last summer when I was going through a Ti Punch craze. However, because I had picked up multiple different Blanc Rhum Agricoles I didn’t get a chance to write a proper review until now.

Like all Rhum Agricole this Rhum is made from fresh crushed sugar cane juice which is briefly fermented and then distilled on a column still. It is bottled, unaged, at 50% ABV. However, as I have found, despite similar to near identical processes, each Rhum Agricole can be very different from other Agricoles even from the same region, cane varietal, and distillery. Each brings different nuances. So what does this one bring to the table?

Taking it from the Glencairn I smell Freah cut Green Hay and Green Olives in Brine. Those two notes I find pretty common across many Agricole expressions. However here is where the nuance comes in: next I detect just the slightest hint of Strawberry Jam. At first I didn’t trust my senses on this note so i went back to the well…yep, I am not imagining things. It’s not super strong, just hint, but that’s the note. Next I get spent Lime wedges and Coriander. Thats different and I suspect will play nicely in a Ti Punch (spoiler: it does).

On the palate I immediately get Lime and Powdered Sugar in an interesting 1-2 punch. After that comes Chalk and a very familiar Vegetal note like uncooked snap peas.

This Agricole Blanc actually has a finish to write about, which can’t be said for some. Here on the retrohale I get Black Pepper and a powerful fresh Herbal note, the closest approximation of which is Cilantro.

This is a good one. It’s nothing spectacular or mind-bending, but it is well above average and the balance is quite nice. It’s not a rum am likely to sip on straight…but that’s not what I got it for anyway. I got this one for Ti Punch on hot Georgia days. So how is it for that use? Quite good.

This Rhum makes a very solid traditional Ti Punch. It’s natural Lime, grass, and powdered sugar notes really lean in to the ingredients in the Ti Punch and make for a very solid cocktail.

Do I recommend this rum if you see it? Yes, I do. This is a classic subtly nuanced Agricole Blanc that makes a great traditional Ti Punch.

ABV: 50%
Country of Origin: Martinique
Producer: Trois Rivières

Nose: Fresh cut Green Hay, Green Olives in Brine, slightest hint of Strawberry Jam, spent Lime wedges, Coriander

Palate: Lime, Powdered Sugar, Chalk, Vegetal (uncooked snap peas?)

Finish: Black Pepper, fresh Green Herbs (slight hint of cilantro)

Nice orange/golden color. Nose is warm smell with wood and caramel toffee. When I saw other reviews I was a bit scared to taste it. I don't get it when I read 'strong burn'. The bottle I have is so smooth, I don't have any burn. You have a warm taste of summer. Light but full. It has a caramel and woody taste with vanilla. It's a very good rum. Not Bold but more classy. For people who don't like too strong. This is a rum for you.

A. H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Black edition rum

A. H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Black edition review posted 4 hours ago by LUKAŽIGA 🇸🇮 | 125 ratings

8:On the nose, we discover a very dark Riise. First coffee, then lots of molasses, black, thick and licorice-like, creamy orange, dark chocolate. This thickness is enveloping and even heady, reminiscent of a very sweet coffee or a burnt, buttery caramel. The brand's trademark candy character is present, but for now it's smoldering under the ashes.
It's the aeration that will deliver all the unbridled confectionery we're used to from these rums. Candies join the party: cherry marshmallows, tagada strawberries, tangy banana.
7,8:On the palate, the attack is very soft, then gives way to a whiff of Christmas spices. Another of the brand's signatures, these spices are indeed present. A torrent of vanilla then carries off a host of sweets: milk-strawberry candy, cherry lollipop, creamy orange, vanilla whipped cream.
7,2:In the finish, licorice finds a small place, surrounded above all by a world of powdered sugar.

Plantation Barbados 5-Year rum

Plantation Barbados 5-Year review posted 4 hours ago by LUKAŽIGA 🇸🇮 | 125 ratings

6,5:The nose opens with the sweetness of coconut milk and vanilla, and a syrup of sweet spices such as tonka bean, cinnamon and nutmeg. A round, pastry-like ambience emerges.
Aeration reveals more roasting notes and the profile becomes increasingly spicy. There's also a touch of acidity and sweetness, with a layer of milky strawberries.
6,2:On the palate, the vanilla-coconut flavors of the nose continue with some chocolate notes. The roundness of American oak is at its peak, and the rather round, sweet texture adds a little more to palate.
6:The finish is quite short, coconutty with sweet spices.

Quorhum 30-Year rum

Quorhum 30-Year review posted 5 hours ago by Chef Bobo 🇸🇪 | 21 ratings

This is some nice stuff. My bottle is #380 of 1000, batch 6276 of 2022. Slightly too sweet to get higher than 8 from me but a very nice nose, and lovely aroma and finish.
I daubt this rum is aged 30 years... it is a 30 years aniversary celebration rum by Olivier & Olivier, that's for certain

I would think it is a blend of roughly 5-15 year rums, nice tale finish and skillfully blended impurities.
It follows a true spanish style blending rum, slightly sweeter (added molasses?) than english style rums, as well as agricole, wich I preffere.
Never the less, an excellent Quorhum product.

Rum Nation Guatemala Gran Reserva rum

Rum Nation Guatemala Gran Reserva review posted 5 hours ago by LUKAŽIGA 🇸🇮 | 125 ratings

7,8:The nose is carried by a certain sweetness that develops well-known aromas of caramel, vanilla and sweet spices, orange peel . But it doesn't stop there, as it soon intrigues with a slightly smoky, oily facet and with gingerbread biscuits.
With aeration, this mild smoky touch takes on just the right amount of fullness, forming a very pleasant balance with rounder notes. This brings to mind toasted wood, coconut, dried fruits, clove, cigar and even leather.
7,8:The palate is quite complex, yet soft and rounded. It immediately envelops the palate with its sweet, suave touch, then spreads out a very tender oak cask, filled with vanilla and mild spices, some herbal touch. A few toasty notes are picked up in a rum honey studded with sweet spices, like cinammon and some red fruits-cherry, prunes, bourbony peaches, almond, even coffee.
7,5:The finish is delicious, medium with a lightly salted caramel and roasted palate with a wisp of drieness.

Plantation Sealander rum

This is one of the most unique rums I have tasted thus far. I'm terrible at tasting notes, so I'm not going to even try. Picked this up in Budapest while traveling. I was curious because I haven't seen this in the states. I'll be honest, the 4/10 review that said this tasted like Christmas is what sold me. I'm not sure I agree about the Christmas tasting notes, but it is magical. I do agree with the more fruity notes that others have mentioned, but maybe there are hints of baking spices, which I guess is sort of like a Christmas fruit cake. It definitely has a small amount of added sugar, but it's very subtle, no sweeter than the XO. No harshness. Fantastic rum blend.

Barcelo Imperial Onyx rum

Beautiful dark color. Aroma of burnt caramel, leather, charred oak. A wonderful taste to match. I suspect it's been lightly dosed, but it's very tasty. Light lingering brown sugary flavor.
Very good.

Blue Mauritius Gold rum

Blue Mauritius Gold review posted 18 hours ago by Administrator 🇸🇰 | 26 ratings

This rum contains additives and the taste is simply ridiculous beside it is overpriced product.
To be fair, there is a taste of really good mature rum on the background, which is unfortunately completely destroyed by cheap-vanilla-cookie sweetness. Same on the nose. It has something similar with Bumbu Original, little bit better.
On the other hand, excellent color and the bottle is really attractive, modern, in a minimalist style. However, the fancy bottle promising good stuff is just a lie. It cannot save what is inside.
I do my best but only 2/10.

The afterburn is strong, but I did enjoy the rum. Just a hint of the tequila barrel, which was a new rum flavor for me. The brand also has rums aged in chardonnay and red wine barrels.

My fist sniff was so decedent my mouth started watering and I thought, “Wow, this is going to be good!” But immediately after the first sip the roughness grabs you. It is almost shocking.
As a rum and coke it is enjoyable. As a sipping rum, not for me.
Not bad but not as good as I expected.

Bodega Bay Single Barrel rum

It has an oaky flavor that is strong, but I wish it had a little less burn.  The reference to caramel and honey on the label suggests additives.  But the $25 price point weighs in its favor.
